![]() The Norfolk Historical Society interprets and preserves the history of Norfolk, a Virginia seaport city chartered in 1682.
In recent years, one of the society's major projects has been restoring Fort Norfolk, the last remaining of 19 harbor-front forts authorized in 1794 by President George Washington. Visitors to norfolkhistorical.org may take a virtual tour of the fort. The Norfolk Historical Society's educational and preservation programs are made possible by the support of members and other donors. Members of the Society receive free or discounted admission to a variety of historical lectures and events, and a subscription to the Courier.
